Children need to be out in the sunlight to protect their eyes

 The avoid-sunlight crowd insists that we should stay out away form those disease-causing sun rays to avoid disease.  I often wonder how our ancestors, who spent most of their live outdoors working, ever survived.  Strange that the human race is still intact after all that sun exposure, no?   Especially, it is amazing that our vision has not been destroyed by the injudicious sun use of our ancestors.  Can you think of anything more counterintuitive that the idea that a people who live in the sun for millennia suddenly need to protect themselves?

This article is one of several now indicating that children develop nearsightedness when they do not play outdoors.  What could be more natural than safely participating in sunny activities?  Could it save the sight of our children?
