Another study has just been released that adds more evidence that sunlight exposure, far from being a carcinogen, reduces the risk of cancer. This time, sunlight exposure is shown to associate with a lowered risk of pancreatic cancer, one of the most deadly. Bit by bit, the falsehoods being promulgated by the sunscare movement are exposed to the public. This is an excellent read!
Children in Mumbai, India, are suffering from a lifestyle that includes little time outdoors, making them vitamin D-deficient. Dr. Vipla Puri indicates that “vitamin D deficiency has reached alarming proportions,” which is adversely affecting children’s immune systems. He recommends that parents work on altering children’s lifestyle to protect them from serious diseases.
It is a well-known fact that African Americans have an excess of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, etc. when compared to other races in the U.S. A new paper makes a compelling case that the excess of cancer deaths may be due to vitamin D deficiency, since it takes much more sun exposure in blacks, compared to whites, to produce optimal vitamin D levels.
More praise for the tomato! New research from the UK shows that the consumption of tomato paste dramatically reduces skin damage from sunlight. I have written previously that vegetables and fruits helped protect the skin from sun damage. This is the second study that mentioned the effects of tomato past per se. A very interesting read.
Dr. Cathi Stack has written an excellent article on the health benefits of sunligtht, and the fact that regular sun exposure is associated with a reduced risk of 22 canacers, including melanoma. She also takes on sunscreen and explains that as its use has increased, melanoma risk has also increased. We need more like Dr. Stack!
